I grew up in Hamilton and studied music early, singing in a choir for 4 years in grade school after which I learned to play guitar. I then wrote and played songs for folk masses and played in a rock music cover band as a singer for Iron Moon, during early high school. I took violin lessons from age 9 and played for the Hamilton Youth Philharmonic Orchestra under Dr. Glenn Mallory
I moved to British Columbia where I learned to play tenor sax and started studying the flute. On my return to Ontario, I played in Toronto with ‘post punk’ bands and rock bands and I thought it wise to take vocal lessons for several years. I recorded at Accusonic Studios, Wellesley Sound, at OCAD studios and home studios. I wrote a song, “I Learn Good”, and coproduced a video for it which is on YouTube under the band name “Les Muckxs”. It was a VideoCulture judges’ favourite and won an acclamation. I performed with The Velours, Tulpa, Daily Planet, The New Muckrakers(Les Muckxs), Bop Totem, Handsome Ned, The Velours and solo. I hosted a popular open-mike, Saloon Salon, for several years. I cowrote a soundtrack for an OCAD film and recorded it. After I returned to Hamilton, I still performed with Broadview Station, a band comprised of old friends and former members of The Diodes, ZRO4, and the Russ Carson band. We played The Cameron House and The Black Swan in Toronto.
I connected with music networks in Hamilton, playing open mikes and meeting new friends like, Lou Molinaro, owner/booker for This Ain’t Hollywood and joining Local 293. I played open mikes and connected with notable musicians like, Jack Pedler, Mike Almas, etc..
With session musicians I met, I recorded and produced “Songs From The Iroquois Bar”, an album of songs about my influences in Hamilton and my neighbourhood. I grew up around the Iroquois Bar, an ancient sandbar that runs southwest from downtown to Burlington. I actively promoted this CD, joined SOCAN, created publicity, and travelled outside of Hamilton to promote it in London and Toronto record stores and radio stations.
I have been recording another CD (November 2017) which is ready for mixing and I hope to perform as much as possible now. Music has been described as, gypsy(!), arty, quirky, original rock about politics, love, life as a musician, memories, dance……
I like to put my poetry to music. The lyrics are integral.
